Goal: $10,000.00
Specific Need
On October 1, 2016, our family’s faith was shaken, and our world turned upside down when we received news that our Conner had died by suicide.
While we have lost our child, we have chosen to not have his death be in vain. We know that we are not the first ones to suffer such a loss. But we hope to be some of the last. Taking Conner’s memory, and turning our loss into something positive, this is the ConnerStrong way.
What we do...
- Mental health advocacy and education
- Special focus on youth - teens & young adults
- Sources of Strength school program training
- Online resources for teens, parents and teachers
- Suicide awareness / prevention workshops
- Continuing support for survivors & FAMILIES
Mental health issues and suicide are a leading epidemic among our teens and young adults. Untreated mental illness and the general stigma of mental health is associated with poor success in school and an increased probability of suicide ideation and suicide attempts.
Our programs aim to both help educate and protect our youth, but also to provide much needed resources to those around them.
Our specific need - we are raising $10,000 for a Sources of Strength Coaches Training session. Training and support are essential for effective and sustainable program implementation.
Lack of funding should never be a reason to deny access to mental health support for our children.
Through our Sources of Strength school initiatives, our partnership with GMU Center for Community Mental Health, and our survivor outreach programs, we are bringing that hope, comfort, education and support to our community. The ConnerStrong Foundation is proud to be one of the many sponsors of this very important program! To date, we have funded this program in over 13 Virginia high schools and middle schools and are currently working on adding several elementary schools to our list. Our goal is to is to provide Sources of Strength training and program implementation into as many schools as possible in an effort reduce the number of suicides in our community.
