Goal: $20,000.00
Specific Need
2024 is a year of expanded goals for the Lucketts Ruritan Club. The need in our area is great. Please Donate! Despite a challenging economy and concerning world events, we hope to raise $20,000 through Give Choose to 1) ensure that our scholarships, including the new program for students attending trade schools, are fully funded, 2) increase our sense of community by sponsoring events to bring people together, and 3) grow our current community and youth grants designed to enhance the lives of Lucketts residents. We rely on and appreciate your financial support.
Mission
The mission of the Lucketts Ruritan Club is to make our community a better place in which to live and work. We accomplish this mission by engaging the community in its care. Through community service, fellowship, and goodwill, we work for the common good of our neighbors.
Profile
For over four decades, The Lucketts Ruritan Club has been and continues to be committed to serving our community through fellowship, goodwill, and community service. We are dedicated to improving our community and to developing better understanding between people.
Much more than the village of Lucketts, our territory and members include the area “from the Y to the bridge, and from the river to the ridge.” This area has not always been the focus of Loudoun County Government. After all, this is where you will find Lost Corner! However, the Lucketts Ruritan Club helps to fill that gap.
- When Lucketts Elementary School needed support for its music programs, key instructional software, and appropriate chairs to assist with focus skills, we provided the funding.
- During 2023, we funded an additional $5,000 in college scholarships to outstanding local students
,and recognized two students for outstanding citizenship, which brought total scholarships awarded since 2020 to over $76,000. - We are a partner for the Student Environmental Action Showcase (SEAS) held annually by the Loudoun Environmental Education Alliance. Two students from Lucketts have entries this year.
- When we learned that a large number of students at Lucketts Elementary School did not own warm coats for winter, we stepped up, as we have for over a decade. Last year, we delivered 43 coats to meet that need.
- When the County provided financial support for low-income children to attend Parks and Recreation's Summer Camp programs, we provided funding through the Lucketts Community Center to supplement and expand the program in Lucketts.
- When Faith Chapel Gathering Place learned that their roof needed to be painted to preserve the integrity of the building, we provided a matching grant for half of the required funds.
- When Faith Chapel Gathering Place wanted to provide more events for the community, we sponsored various events such as quartets from the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra.
- During election cycles, we sponsor and conduct ‘Meet the Candidates’ events to promote voting and to provide our community with an opportunity to dialog directly with those running for office.
- We financially support the Lucketts Community Food Pantry and collect cash donations for them weekly at our Saturday Trash and Recycling operation.
- With the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Association we sponsored the inaugural Luckett History Fair in 2023.
- Since 2022 we have worked with the Black History Committee of Thomas Balch Library and the Trustees of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on Bald Hill Road in Lucketts to preserve their building and their legacy.
- We publish LUCKETTS NEWS & NOTES, three times a year. Mailed to 1800 Lucketts households, the community newsletter describes the people, programs, and places that make
sLucketts a vibrant and diverse community. - In total, Lucketts Ruritan members donated 4943 volunteer hours to the Lucketts community in 2023.
