Specific Need

Aaliyah in Action is partnered with INOVA Loudoun Hospital and provides our Self-Care Packages to their Labor & Delivery Unit if needed. Packages are dropped off in groups of 10 and any funding from this program would go directly to supplying INOVA Loudoun Hospital.

Mission

Aaliyah in Action provides women, birthing people and families with tangible bereavement support, in the form of self-care packages and support books, after experiencing a perinatal, neonatal or infant loss. Aaliyah in Action partners with hospitals who have inventory of our thoughtfully curated Aaliyah in Action Self-Care Packages and accompanying support books.

Our program carries a range of support books (miscarriage, stillbirth/infant death, non-birthing partners and/or a children's book for living siblings) and hospital staff choose which is most appropriate for the recipient.

Profile

Aaliyah Briscoe was born silent into this world on 12/1/20. Her mother, Elizabeth, received so much support from friends and family after Aaliyah's passing, she knew she needed to find a way to pay it forward to other families who experience this trauma. This organization is a way for Aaliyah's parents to create a strong legacy for their daughter while also giving families tools that will appropriately start them on the grief journey.

Our hospital partnerships began with GW Hospital, where Aaliyah was delivered, and has grown to 50+ hospitals to date. The response from hospital staff and recipients has been overwhelmingly positive for such a traumatic experience. & as a way to give back to te community, the self-care iitems in our packages are sourced largely from Black-owned and women-owned businesses, a reflection of who Aaliyah would have been in this world.
