Since 1994 the Loudoun Community Band has been providing opportunities for adults to give the gift of music to their neighbors. We promote musical participation, education, appreciation and enjoyment in our community, and we enrich the cultural life of the community through our performances. As an umbrella musical service organization, the Loudoun Community Band fields two ensembles, the Loudoun Symphonic Winds and the Loudoun Jazz Ensemble.
LOUDOUN SYMPHONIC WINDS
The Loudoun Symphonic Winds is a community-based concert band that includes both professional and dedicated amateur musicians. Our goal is to give the Loudoun community and its neighbors an opportunity to play and hear the best of yesterday's and today's concert band music.
Part of our mission includes education. To that end, teachers in the Loudoun County Public School system can earn continuing education credits for their participation. We have presented educational workshops for LCPS in the past, impacting a total of nearly 5,000 students. Also for the last 10 years or so, we have offered guest artist events and workshops.
The Loudoun Symphonic Winds’ repertoire covers a wide spectrum of music from classic marches and orchestral transcriptions to Broadway songs and holiday favorites. The band showcases new compositions from the best of today's band composers and brings in guest soloists. Our ensemble also performs annually at the July 4th celebration at Franklin Park in Purcellville, VA, an event we have been part of for almost 20 years.
The Loudoun Symphonic Winds has hosted an annual Toys for Tots holiday concert every December for over 20 years. This event is in partnership with the Marine Reserves Toys for Tots program to collect new toys and gift cards for local families who need extra help with holiday gifts.
LOUDOUN JAZZ ENSEMBLE
The Loudoun Jazz Ensemble has been performing big band music throughout the Northern Virginia area since 1997. As a performing organization of the Loudoun Community Band, we provide the opportunity for area musicians who have a strong interest in big band jazz to rehearse on a regular basis and to perform for the people of Loudoun County and the DC metro area. Our repertoire ranges from the 1940s through today.
