Goal: $7,500.00
Specific Need
The Cats at Longstreet (TCAL) is a Northern Virginia-based cat rescue that specializes in helping those cats whose life hasn't been so kind. Our specific need is to raise funds to provide needed medical care for around 250 cats and kittens every year so they can be adopted to a loving home. Because we take in the very sick and severely injured and nurse them back to health, our operating expenses can be quite large. Our team answers the call when local shelters or other rescues need the expertise of The Cats at Longstreet to save a cat's life. With the help of our partner vet Harmony Hill Animal Hospital, and our network of fosters and volunteers, The Cats at Longstreet has saved hundreds of cats' lives, and readied most of them for adoption. TCAL also supports two feral colonies in Loudoun County.
We do what we do because their lives matter.

Mission
The Cats at Longstreet, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is a cat rescue that helps cats and kittens from all walks of life, but specializes in helping those cats for whom tragedy has struck in the harshest of ways. We take in those who are so sick or who have been severely injured and are not expected to survive. The Cats at Longstreet is often their last hope, their last chance, the last effort to save their lives. We also assist with trap-neuter-return (TNR), because we understand that not every cat desires to be a lap cat, and may well prefer to live in a barn. We believe those cats also deserve a chance to live fully, and will do anything we can to help them.
After rehabilitation and socialization, The Cats at Longstreet is dedicated to placing the right cat in the right home at the right time. We make sure to get to know our cats, their behaviors, their quirks, and their likes, prior to sending them to new homes. It is important to us that we find the absolute best match for the cat and for the family or individual looking to adopt. We are patient and understanding, knowing that a good portion of our cats have special needs, and the right home is out there for each and every one.
Profile
The Cats at Longstreet is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization that provides care and love to cats and the occasional dog! These animals need the love and care we provide and that starts and ends with you.
Our organization wouldn't exist without the help of our volunteers, fosters, supporters, and donors. We appreciate all types of help from sharing a post about us on social media to donating toward supplies for our purrfect kitties.
In 2023, TCAL took in 252 cats including 30 kittens born in our care. TCAL treated about a dozen very critical cats who would have had little to no chance with another rescue. TCAL successfully adopted out 277 cats and 32 were placed in a sanctuary.
The Cats at Longstreet has been a 501(c)3 non profit organization for several years, however, the rescue roots reach back to 2010. Dr. Kathi Werden and Kristin Lassiter met while working at the same veterinary practice and soon realized they shared many interests and passions. When presented with a particularly frustrating case, the two decided to care for a cat that would have otherwise been euthanized. Through their care, training, and dedication, that cat lived a long, happy 8 years with a loving family. An orphaned litter of kittens and a leukemia (FeLV) positive mom followed, and the rescue was born. Fourteen years later, Longstreet has rescued, treated, and adopted out over 2,500 cats.
