The Alzheimer's Association (2022) estimates that nationally, more than 1 in 9 people, 11.3% of the population over the age of 65, have Alzheimer's disease. It is important to note that while Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, it accounts for only about 80% of all cases of dementia. In Virginia alone, 150,000 people in 2020 were diagnosed and that number is projected to rise to 190,000 in the next five years. In addition to these estimates of potential need, it is important to discuss the resources a family needs in order to access private duty memory care or caregiver respite support. According to the 2017 American Community Survey for Loudoun County, approximately 10% of the population aged 65 and older live at or below 150% of the federal poverty line. In-home care services, or institutional care- for later in the disease progression- is simply out of reach for most to access because of their high cost. This segment of our population is especially vulnerable for caregiver burnout and social isolation.
Insight is committed to making its programs and services available to as many people as possible, including those with fewer financial resources unable to pay daily fees for our program. Insight has free programs and provides financial assistiance for all of our fee based programs.

Profile
Insight Memory Care Center is a nonprofit adult day health and resource center providing specialized care, support, and education for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory impairments, their families, caregivers, and the community. Serving Northern Virginia since 1984, Insight offers a spectrum of holistic care, with a vision of a community where those affected by memory impairments can achieve the highest quality of life.
Insight’s adult day health center provides a safe, engaging, and therapeutic environment for individuals with mid to later stage memory impairment. It is the only dementia-specific day center in the DC metro area and still the only adult day health center in Northern Virginia with programs for people in the later stages of dementia. For those in the early stages, Insight offers social engagement programs to maximize capabilities, and provide support for loved ones to adjust to changing family dynamics. Additionally, our innovative education and support programs provide caregiver classes, community trainings, professional seminars, support groups, and individual consultations. These programs help family members remain confident and effective in their caregiving roles and increase awareness and understanding of the disease in the community.
