Good Shepherd of Northern Virginia

Goal: $7,500.00

Specific Need

This year we are raising money to create a transportation fund for the women in our shelters. This fund will provide the women in our program with grants for vehicle repairs, gas and rideshare credits. By alleviating transportation barriers, the fund aims to empower women the women in our shelters to attend job interviews, medical appointments, and other critical activities, thereby enhancing their ability to regain independence and stability. This initiative recognizes the significance of reliable transportation in breaking the cycle of homelessness and strives to contribute to the overall well-being and self-sufficiency of women in need.

Mission

Good Shepherd of Northern Virginia is the areas most comprehensive network of services for the homeless, near-homeless, and those in need. Our shelters and transitional housing not only provides care for the immediate needs of those who come to us, but we also work with partners in the community – organizations, volunteers, and local businesses to address the deeper causes of homelessness. Our goal is to help everyone find housing stability, economic independence, and self-sufficiency.

We create programs that open doors to housing security, economic independence, and self-sufficiency, which allow our participants to become involved members of our community. We seek to develop innovative partnerships by involving our clients in opportunities where they can offer their skills and leadership in our local community.

Profile

When an individual or family comes to Good Shepherd of Northern Virginia seeking shelter, they enter our Six Stages of Self-Sufficiency Program. The Six Steps is a dynamic program designed to help individuals and families achieve specific goals and ultimately return to housing stability in the community. Residents work directly with a case manager to address specific and unique challenges in each of the six stages. We believe it is essential to provide people the opportunity for a long-term solution; not just shelter for a night.

All programs offered at Good Shepherd of Northern Virginia offer a safe place for all to learn, share and ask questions in an environment of mentorship and personal guidance.

In addition to our programming, Good Shepherd of Northern Virginia operates three retail thrift stores in Loudoun County. The funds raised through the sale of donated goods, or shopping at one of our retail thrift stores directly benefits our participants via programming and support resources. It’s shopping for a cause at its best.
