Specific Need
Donations made to Girls on the Run of NOVA via Give Choose 2024 will provide access to our program for more girls at a critical time when they need connection, tools to build healthy relationships, and a safe place to unleash their star power.
Girls on the Run of NOVA knows that building confidence, building strength, and forming healthy habits are lifelong lessons. We need your help to ensure all local girls have access to the tools they need to face life's challenges. GOTR NOVA offers need-based financial aid as well as program fee discounts. $200 covers the cost of a full season scholarship for a girl in need.
Mission
Girls on the Run of NOVA has been working for over 20 years to inspire girls throughout Northern Virginia to be joyful, healthy, and confident. GOTR NOVA supports 3rd-8th grade girls in developing the confidence and character they need to become strong, healthy women using a unique, research-based after-school curriculum that creatively integrates running. Supported by over 750 Volunteer Coaches each year, we envision a world where each girl knows she has the ultimate power to be her best.
Profile
The Girls on the Run curriculum is delivered by trained Volunteer Coaches who mentor and guide the girls through experience-rich lessons that promote healthy lifestyles and a positive self-image.
While in the program, girls participate in activities that focus on promoting skills and values related to self-awareness and self-care, selecting healthy social relationships, and empowering girls to have a voice in their personal well-being as well as the well-being of the larger community. At the end of the season, girls from across the region come together for an end-of-season 5K celebratory event, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment.
Since 2000, GOTR NOVA has helped more than 85,000 local girls increase their physical activity levels, learn healthy behaviors, and improve their self-esteem by offering evidence-based after-school programming in a team-based setting, rich with female mentors. While our history is rich in innovation and growth, our most significant milestone was the recent shift in strategic focus to more effectively meet the needs of girls from low-income communities.
