Specific Need

Cornerstones actively supports Loudoun County’s bold plan to address unmet housing needs – a place to live is 'the cornerstone’ for building family opportunity and prosperity. We are a proud partner of Wellington Development in the planned creation of 180 affordable homes at Tuscarora Crossing in Leesburg.

Through this partnership, Cornerstones will provide community-based and onsite services that:

Create access to job training and transportation for working families.
Build greater region-wide economic stability.
Bridge the digital divide and ensure that children and youth have access to a quality education.

In addition to addressing affordable housing in Loudoun County, Cornerstones is also tackling food insecurity. With demand for food assistance on the rise, many pantries and feeding programs are struggling to find enough cooled and uncooled space to store the food they receive. This leads to delayed deliveries and missed opportunities to rescue food from local grocers, farmers and restaurants.

Cornerstones is thrilled to collaborate with local partners to implement unique, strategic solutions designed to rescue more food and combat hunger across Northern Virginia.

The Cornerstones FREE from Hunger Center is:

An inclusive, non-competitive network of large to small nonprofit, faith, school, and neighborhood-based pantry and feeding programs, working to collectively address hunger in our region.
An innovative partnership to help streamline food rescue, acquisition, and distribution while leveraging our warehouse space for adequate storage until the food is needed for direct distribution to families and individuals.

The FREE from Hunger Food Center is not a direct-to-consumer food pantry and will not supplant the food rescue and distribution efforts of other programs. The Center focuses on operations that create efficiencies, remove barriers, and fill gaps in existing food rescue and distribution efforts.
