Aldie Heritage Association

Goal: $2,500.00

Specific Need

Your contribution to the Aldie Heritage Association supports our work in both the preservation of Aldie’s important historic assets and the support we offer to the Aldie community.

Among our projects, we are currently in the process of restoring a brick wall that dates back to the founding of the village, and we regularly sponsor programs at the Aldie Mill Historic Park. Last year, we advocated for the successful purchase of the Aldie Assemblage by the Piedmont Environmental Council, and we plan to remain active in supporting their work to renovate those structures and put them back into use. This year, we'd like to put together a book collecting stories and history from our friends and neighbors in the village, and to recognize those in our community who've worked hard to restore their historic properties. We participate in cleanup days at Mt. Zion Cemetery, and give a Good Citizen Award every year to a deserving student from each grade in Aldie Elementary.

The Board of the Aldie Heritage Association is made up of residents and property owners who live in the historic Village of Aldie and its immediate surrounding area. Many of us have deep and long-standing ties to our village, and we are all eager to ensure its bright and vibrant future.

Mission

The Aldie Heritage Association is 501(c)(3) nonprofit membership organization founded to promote the history, character and heritage of Aldie, Virginia and the surrounding area.

Profile

The Village of Aldie was established in 1810, and has always held a unique place in Virginia’s history. The village grew around the Aldie Mill, Virginia’s only known gristmill powered by twin overshot water wheels, and once the largest factory of its kind in Loudoun County. Fifty years after the construction of the mill, Aldie became the site of a cavalry battle between Union and Confederate troops, part of the larger Gettysburg campaign. This skirmish would later be featured in Herman Melville’s poem, “The Scout Toward Aldie.” Flanked by the rolling Bull Run Mountains and situated along the tranquil Little River, Aldie today is home to a thriving, living community invested in our history as well as our future.
